2018 Dodge Demon | 2017 New York Auto Show

When the 707-horsepower engine is deemed suitable for a crossover, you can rest assured that something special lies in wait for the muscle car fans. Two years after it impressed us with the Challenger and Charger Hellcats, Dodge has gone full-on insane with the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
Just how insane? Well, let’s look at the numbers. 840 horsepower (when running 100 octane… yes, this car can operate on 100 octane fuel). 770 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 miles per hour in seconds and a quarter mile in Step on the gas, and the Demon will thrust you backward into the driver seat with up to Gs of force.
And, unless you opt to have them installed for a dollar apiece, you’ll be the only one being pushed backward. Standard spec from the factory has the Demon sans front passenger and rear bench seats. The lengths we go in the name of weight savings.
It’s safe to say Dodge won’t be advertising the Demon as a well-rounded sports car. This is a machine built specifically for the drag strip (and comes complete with street-legal Nitto drag racing slicks). Ironically, it seems the company was a bit to successful in pursuing its goal: The NHRA deemed the Demon too fast and has banned it from drag strips.
